What We Do

Congolese Solidarity in Gateshead is a voluntary group which is a black minority ethnic supporting african asylum seekers , refugees and  local people living in the Gateshead area.

We provide signposting and advice, education, and organise social activities, with the aim of helping the Congolese community in Gateshead  integrate effectively with the wider local community.

Why Was The Organisation Set Up?

To break down barriers in terms of racism, and change the negative image portrayed by the media of  refugees and asylum seekers in the North East and to give them the confidence and self esteem to live as part of the wider north east community.

When Was The Organisation Established?

We were established on the 2nd June 2005 in Gateshead.

Our Aims

  • To facilitate the integration of all asylum seekers, refugees , Congolese people and their families into the local community
  • To provide support and counselling to those in need
  • To improve employment prospects through the promotion of skills and training
  • To promote community integration and the sharing of cultural values via community based events
  • To liaise with other organisations in raising awareness off, and addressing the needs of asylum seekers
  • To promote and encourage business enterprise amongst the African and Congolese community
